Please accept this communication in response to inquiries received regarding the water damage at Grieco Elementary School. Grieco does NOT have structural or mechanical damage. The mildew and air check test results have come back normal. Everything in the building is fully functional. Flood water damage only affected the 1st floor. The 2nd and 3rd floors did not have any damage and are operational. Immediately after the flood, the 1st floor had approximately one inch of water. Areas with carpet need to be replaced. Sheetrock needs to be removed, replaced, and painted. The materials and supplies on the floor had to be discarded. We utilized September 2-8 to clean up the building, assess the work needed, and develop a plan to keep renovation workers on the 1st floor while our students learn on the 2nd and 3rd floors. Our nurse and health office have been relocated to the 3rd floor. We have assembled a large renovation crew to speed the process and open the 1st floor as soon as possible. We will keep the community informed as we move through the renovation process. Thank you for your patience. A message from the EPSD Superintendent… I would like to inform the Grieco community that we will open school tomorrow, Thursday September 9th. We have taken the necessary safety precautions for our students to learn on the 2nd and 3rd floors as we continue to renovate the 1st floor. As the renovation takes place, there will be no interaction between the students and the workers completing the renovation. All work areas will follow containment portals. All air quality checks have come back normal. As a precaution, we will sanitize the building every night and perform periodic air checks during the renovation.  The 1st floor will be operational within 3 to 4 weeks. This was a monumental undertaking by the district and I commend our maintenance and custodial staff who worked around-the-clock to open tomorrow.  Un mensaje del Superintendente de EPSD ... Me gustaría informar a la comunidad de Grieco que abriremos la escuela mañana, jueves 9 de septiembre. Hemos tomado las precauciones de seguridad necesarias para que nuestros estudiantes aprendan en el segundo y tercer piso mientras continuamos renovando el primer piso.
